Today we ventured out to the magnificent realms of the Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple). It was created in circa. 1972 and is an immense statue of the Buddhist teacher Siddhartha Gautama, most commonly known as the Buddha, who founded the religion of Buddhism.
This monumental, gold painted statue is situated on a small island off Koh Samui; it is 40 feet/12 meters tall. The ornate decoration is detailed and beautiful. It’s a must see landmark when visiting the island.
When exploring, you must take off your shoes. When you arrive at the top of the mountain of steps, you may sit in front of the Buddha and pray or meditate. Then you may ring one of the bells to alert him of your prayer.
